Radiosurgery, a term introduced by Swedish neurosurgeon Lars
Leksell, M.D., in 1951, is the non-invasive destruction of a targeted
area in the brain using the precise delivery of a single, high
dose of radiation. The Gamma Knife is considered the gold standard
of radiosurgery and is an instrument used to treat a variety of
brain-related diseases and conditions.
