Gamma Knife

How to refer

Prior to being seen in consultation at Northwest Hospital Gamma Knife Center, we need to receive a copy of the patient's medical history and copies of any recent diagnostic scans. Materials should be sent to:

Ronald F. Young, M.D.
Medical Director
Northwest Hospital Gamma Knife Center
1560 North 115th Street, Suite G-5
Seattle, WA 98133
Telephone: 206-368-1626
Fax: 206-368-1631

After review of these materials, a preliminary assessment can be made whether the patient is a good candidate for Gamma Knife Radiosurgery. If so, a consult can be scheduled. For patients traveling from out of the area, we normally schedule both the consult and the treatment during the same visit in order to prevent the patient from having to make two trips. Patients or their referring physician’s office should call and let us know they are having records sent to us. They will also need to provide a telephone number where they can be reached so that we can advise them whether the Gamma Knife is an appropriate treatment for their condition following review of medical records.

If a patient is considered a good candidate for Gamma Knife treatment and is scheduled following consult, Northwest Hospital Gamma Knife Center will initiate the preauthorization process and will do everything in its power to assist the patient in gaining preauthorization for treatment.

The referring physician is an active partner in the treatment process. All follow-up studies, treatment studies, and progress outcome are done in conjunction with the patient's physician. This is especially important since the effects of Gamma Knife surgery occur over a period of time ranging from days to several years, depending on the type of lesion or disorder.

IMPORTANT NOTE:
Many insurance companies and managed care organizations have specific referral requirements that must be met before a specialist can see a patient. Patients need to be sure they are in compliance with their health care insurance policy's requirements in order for their consultation and treatment to be covered.
